Another Setback for the Mountain Valley Pipeline

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk division recently suspended a permit that would allow the pipeline to cross more than 500 streams and wetlands in southwest Virginia. A similar permit for waterway crossing in West Virginia was revoked last week by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Corps’ Norfolk division sent a letter to the developers of the Mountain Valley Pipeline stating that it found it proper given the recent court decision to suspend the permit in southwest Virginia to “await clarity on this issue.” Although construction on waterway crossing is on pause, construction on the rest of the pipeline continues. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has yet to respond to these latest developments.
