Mountain Valley Pipeline Lawsuit

On December 7, 2018, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring filed suit against the company constructing the Mountain Valley Pipeline, alleging that the developers have failed to comply with state environmental regulations. Due in part to unusually wet weather and erosion, inspectors from the Department of Environmental Quality found that sediment-laden runoff from construction easements flowed onto neighboring properties and contaminated streams. These violations allegedly “caused unpermitted impacts to waterways and roads in multiple counties in Southwest Virginia.” Attorney General Herring’s suit seeks penalties against developers and an order to ensure future compliance with state environmental laws.
