Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Grants Key Approvals To Atlantic Coast Pipeline

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has approval three essential environmental protection plans that had prevented the Atlantic Coast Pipeline from starting construction in Virginia. The Department of Environmental Quality has approval plans to “control erosion and sediment, manage water runoff from storms and limit damage to the fragile “karst” geography of certain mountainous areas as blasting and digging for the natural gas pipeline gets underway.” The pipeline is currently seeking final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to get construction started in Virginia. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is still waiting for approval on an air-quality permit for a compressor station in Buckingham County.
